Who we are

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be yours as well. -Matthew 6:33

Like yeast, those who follow Jesus are in the world to change the world by being who we are, following Jesus into who God made us to be.

His people hoped, expected, that when their long-awaited king came, He would overthrow whatever government was ruling them at the time…the Syrians, the Babylonians, the Persians, the Romans. His many “parables of the Kingdom” exposed new ideas about what the kingdom of God looked like, calling for a change of mind about that kingdom.

Instead of a grand governmental change, Jesus brought humble personal change that contains the power to change everything in life

Matthew’s account of Jesus’ life includes many stories Jesus told to help us understand what kind of kingdom He had come to bring.

He said the kingdom of heaven is like:

a man who sowed good seed …that was sabotaged by an enemy(13:24)

a teeny tiny mustard seed …that sprouted into shelter for the whole world (13:31)

yeast …that spreads without fanfare (13:33)

treasure worth seeking …buried in the dirt (13:44)

a merchant searching for fine pearls …willing to risk it all to get the big one (13:45)

a fishing net …that brings in all kinds of fish(13:47)

a king who wanted to settle his accounts …by forgiving those who owed him! (18:23)

These parables set conventional thinking the Kingdom of Heaven on its head. Read them for yourself and let them change your thinking about what God is after and your place in it.
