What If…?
So…her phone is on the fritz; her ride-share doesn’t show up; she forgot to put a birthday letter in the mail. Any of these is enough to make her frantic; to have all of them come down at once is enough to make any of us frantic!
“Why?” is always the question. Why is this happening to me? Why is it always me? Why can’t someone fix the ride service? Why isn’t my life smooth and easy?
“What?” comes next. What is going on? What did I do wrong? What should I do different? What is God trying to say to me? What does God want me to do?
“When?” follows. When is this going to be fixed? When is this going to end? When am I going to learn my lesson so this can be over? When will I be able to handle things better?
What if…
What if it’s about Him and not about me? What if what He’s after is for His sake? What if it’s not about me learning something or accomplishing something, but about giving Him joy? What if what He’s asking for is for me to rest in His sovereign care? What if He were to receive my trust in this difficult circumstance? What if He were to hear my words of thanksgiving for His provision?
What if my attention were turned to Him in every circumstance?
What then? Surely His heart would be comforted and delighted! Surely He would be worshiped and praised!
