Waiting…

Waiting for bugs to die (Yes, a few survived.), waiting for a new bed frame to arrive, waiting to have somewhere to put the things we are keeping, waiting for new routines to kick in… lots of “waiting for-s.”
There are so many promises connected with waiting for God. Here are a handful:
Those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land. – Psalm 37:9
Wait for the LORD and He will deliver you. – Proverbs 20:22
They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31
What does it really mean to wait for the LORD? What is the position of waiting? Where does my heart need to be? I am weary from waiting…
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; – Psalms 130:5
There are two “waits” and a “hope” in this verse. They are translated from two different Hebrew words. The first has meanings like: to bind together (like by twisting the strands of a cord). I see the implication that our position of waiting here is entwining our lives in His, not like sitting in the parent pickup line waiting for one’s turn, but an integration in the life of the One waited for. The word “hope” is another word for wait! It implies being patient, staying put until the thing is accomplished, trusting what we’ve been told, which is sometimes a painful process.
As the clock ticks on and the calendar turns, I must give myself to entwining myself in Him, learning to look at each everyday thing through the lens of His heart, to make each everyday choice consulting with Him and counting on His wisdom, knowing that His end and desire for me are the best possible. Since I cannot grasp the final outcome, I must grasp the fibers of His love when I spot them running through my day and twist myself into the rope that is Him, holding on until I see Him clearly.
Both trusting and twining as I am
Following Jesus every day in the everyday,
Christi
