Ups and Downs

Yesterday was a day full of ministry opportunities.

It was a day of revelation and insight, confession and restoration, battle and victory. In all this, Jesus is the mighty Victor. Overcomer is His name:  He overcame Satan’s plot to destroy God’s glory and usurp His throne; He overcame death through His resurrection; He overcame sin through the willing offering of His perfect life; He overcame ego by laying down every right He ever had. Jesus demonstrated yesterday and long ago that He is the One worthy of worship and praise, adoration and surrender.

Today is already a day full of other kinds of opportunities… so far there have been difficulty, disaster, dysfunction, disappointment and distress!

I don’t know if I was out of my PJs before I found the door to our deep freeze had been ajar for at least 36 hours! Everything in the door was thawed! I was furious! (Further investigation showed the culprit  was me…) Someone else in our household put food where it did not belong, despite previous conversations about it. Everyone is in online school and the internet was down for 12 hours. Some spiritually astute persons might suggest that we are experiencing retaliation for the progress toward freedom made yesterday. Perhaps…but more important to my mind is the enduring truth that Jesus is still the Victor, the Overcomer! My circumstances do not diminish His worthiness nor His victory over all the worst the enemy can throw at us! He is still worthy of worship and honor, thanksgiving and praise.

If my attitude and mindset are based on the circumstances, I am of all people most miserable and most difficult to live with! I must root my mind in our Eternal God and His unfailing love and unbreakable purpose. Everything in my life (and yours, if you have put your trust in Jesus) is a piece of God’s magnificent design to make me look like Jesus. All the pain in my life, large and small, is designed to send me running to the Father’s arms in desperate dependence. His power  alone can give me the possibility of overcoming my difficulties like Jesus.

I have so far to go to be like the Jesus I

Follow every day in the everyday!
