Trust Dance

Due to my recent knee replacement surgery, I must change position often and take many short walks. Sunday morning, my first time playing and singing for worship in five weeks, I got up during the sermon to pace the back of the worship center. A dear brother in the Lord got out of his seat in the back row, wrapped his arms around me in a holy hug and prayed for my pain to be healed in Jesus’ name. I thanked him, and he sat down. (It is always a blessing to have someone pray for me, whether God knows it is best to answer with a “yes” or not. I love the care expressed!)

I kept walking, my pain subsiding with each step, until there was no more, not just in the reconstructed joint, but anywhere in my body. What a gift this was! No one but my husband knew what a sleepless night I had just had due to pain in lots more places than just my knee.

To say I went my way rejoicing is a vast understatement, but there was more to come.
After the end of the service, another faithful encourager came up to welcome me back to my accustomed place and to ask how I was recovering. I replied that I was improving, but couldn’t dance yet. (I will consider myself fully recovered when I have the capacity to respond to music with the motion I am wired for.)

Braving the stairs up to the stage to put away my electronic equipment, the David Crowder song “How He Loves” came through the sound system. Not very deep in content, but with a wealth of heart connection, this song has always made me want to waltz. I felt my Lover’s invitation to dance. “But I can’t trust my knee yet,” I protested. “What if I fall?”

The whisper came to my heart, “Can you trust me? I will catch you if you fall.  Will you dance with me?”
So I began to dance. Just a gentle sway at first, then the tiniest of box steps, swept away by the beauty of His faithfulness and gentleness, I closed my eyes,  and tears steamed down my face.

He invites you to the dance that is relationship with Him. Do not fear weakness or failure. He has all the strength and faithfulness you need. You need not be perfect or even better! You only need to surrender to His invitation and let His arms enfold you. Will you take Him at His word?

Following Jesus every day in the everyday dance of trust,

Christi
