Here Am I

Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.  –Luke 1:38

With only a few days till Christmas, my schedule feels even more full than normal. Regular household work competes with parties and decorating, and the rivalry generates chaos. Just after I get the hubby out the door, I usually have time  to spend with God..any way He chooses. Sometimes I pray; other times I write or dance; there are times when I sip coffee and watch the  sky growing with light and color in between reading His written word. These last few weeks I have begun that time with today’s verse: Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word. 

Here am I…

…in the midst of half-unpacked boxes, both coming and going

…in the middle of brokenness — my own and others’

…in the muddle of celebrate, meditate, cooperate, decorate

…in the moment of quiet while busy takes a number…

…the servant of the Lord…

…Your lady-in-waiting

…Your rescued child

…Your surrendered instrument

…Your purposed creation…

…let it be with me according to your word…

…that holds the whole thing together

… so precise and sharp it cuts a lacy filigree out of a granite heart

…that makes me out of nothing and makes nothing out of my worst enemies

…so deep it baffles the brightest brains, yet

…so wide only a child can grasp it.

May you know His presence in the present, His peace with your past, His faithfulness in the face of your future fears. He is here. He is the With-Us God…Emmanuel…let Him dwell with you today…

…and every day in the everyday!
