Glimpses of His Glory

These are traveling days, days of discovery and adventure, days full of glimpses of God’s glory.
Let me explain.
The hub and I recently purchased a 1989 tiny tent trailer to tow behind our Prius. (We are practicing for his retirement.) When I say tiny, I mean a full-size air mattress fills the whole tent that rests on a platform up a three step ladder. Getting in and out and of the bed counts as exercise!
There are many stories to tell about our adventures as we figure out the best way to deal with things like: four-wheel-drive roads in a small passenger car, meals cooked on a two burner stove, mystery rodents that find their way into the glove compartment!
But what I wanted was to share some glimpses of God’s glory…things like: the glow of the westering sun on the red rock spires near Bryce Canyon, swaths of red bushes on the mountain slopes of central Utah, moonlight bright enough to take a walk without a flashlight, glittering stars and planets a backdrop for serenades by a range of choristers, including my favorite baritone, bellowing bovines and bullfrogs, migratory minstrels of the feathered persuasion.
Finally, a good night’s sleep, hearty homemade hotcakes with apple pie filling on top, rolling hills of golden wheat, rugged rockfalls, skies that settle into serene sunsets.
All these are glimpses of God’s glory, displayed in His good gifts.
Now, lest you think we are on some idyllic trip with no difficulties, let me tell you about some of the challenges in which God’s glory has also been glimpsed.
Two good-sized senior citizens clambering up a narrow-runged ladder into a bed that’s not quite big enough…collapsing into laughter as we enjoy the humor of our difficulties; frost on the inside of the tent and damp matches replaced by a lighter that had no fuel…(It still makes a spark, and that was enough to light the stove.) The first campground had shut off the water just last week, but that meant the fee was reduced…the second time that happened the campsite was free! The space heater we bought didn’t work, but the overnight temperatures were the mildest we had yet seen.
You could chalk all these up to coincidence, but the longer I follow Jesus, the more I see (and trust when I don’t see) His word that says He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called by Him.
Even the teamwork that The Hub and I are experiencing is a glimpse of His glory. Our natural state did not start out as harmony! Surely God’s power displayed in our everyday weaknesses and challenges provide glimpses of His grandeur and power as we are
Following Jesus every day in the everyday,
Christi
