Excerpts from the Everyday

Wow. It’s been a month since I posted anything! Here are some bits and pieces from my conversations with Papa-God over the last few weeks:

…(While visiting someone in their new home.) I welcome You to this home – this elegant, spacious, clever, well-appointed house-but-not-quite-home.   I release the presence of Jesus over and throughout this place. You have blessed it with beauty, a creek, wildlife, someplace with a bell nearby, actual dark at night; now I bless it with healing, with peace, with comfort and thanksgiving. Lead me in Your ways and let me be a blessing…

…(While studying Deuteronomy) You rule all the affairs of men, You work all things together for good for those who love You – and You decree destruction for those who are not Yours. You alone are God, so sometimes “working for good” and “decreeing destruction” look very similar. You rescued a bunch of slaves (those who were the physical properties of others. with no vacation, no p.t.o., no sick leave, no days off.) and gave them a weekly day off! The sabbath was not to be a burden to be borne, but a freedom! Release from obligation to work because You were their master now!…

…(visiting somewhere far away) It’s 67º and raining here.  The music of the rain is a thousand tiny percussionists – plit-plat, slackity-slop, plackity-plackity, plit plitplit – more gentle than yesterday’s downpour – gathering in orchestra pits in the low places under the eaves, or sneaking down the bank to add to the roar of the creek (usually quiet).

O LORD, I hear the tiny music of the rain, let me ear Your whispers throughout the day, Your spoken instructions this morning, and You voice-in-the-mouths-of-others…

…(While thinking about  and praying for the young people in my life) For this next generation, bring stillness as a discipline that makes room for Your voice. Help me to communicate well about You and Your desires for us. While those desires are “all about You,” they are “all about us,” because your glory and our good are inextricably linked through Your divine purpose and desire: to make, have, and rescue a people for Yourself. Please give me understanding of that plan and purpose and the ability to communicate it…
