Divine Insight or Common Sense?

Some humans are innately organized…and then there’s me.
And my life is full of things that change, shift and move without consulting me. The nerve!
My weekly calendar is a large presentation board populated with sticky notes…because they often need to be rearranged. Family emergencies, household disasters, memory failures, car trouble, friends in need…all these things make having a schedule in ink a waste of the paper it’s written on.
My daily to-do list is routinely a never-completed collection of my hopes, with a few withered dreams thrown in. Mix that with flawed humans attempting to live in community with other flawed humans, and the probability of chaos and confusion is nearly 100%. After a while, the chaos and disorder becomes intolerable. So…in the middle of an especially frustrating week, a prompted journal encouraging me to explore the prophetic instructed me to ask for a word of wisdom, “actual pieces of wisdom that come to us to help us know how to apply our plans.” I was so overwhelmed and frantic, I couldn’t even think what it was I needed wisdom for!
I have this colorful, moveable calendar with spaces lined out for the chunks of my day, an endless to-do list and no way out from the chaos.
All right, all you left-brained, naturally sequential, filing-cabinet-loving thinkers, you don’t need a word of wisdom to solve this problem. You never needed to ask the question!
Me…not so much.
After all these years, you’d think I would have this figured out…
The light-bulb moment came after asking God for several days what to ask Him for a word of wisdom about, followed by several days of asking for a solution to the problem of developing a reasonable plan for my days, hopefully to alleviate the pressure of chaos and disorder: put on the day’s to-do list the things that you have time blocked out for.
Yup. That was it.
Most of you are shaking your heads in disbelief that I had to ask God for this “word of wisdom.” The rest understand…or at least sympathize.
But, here it is: I need God’s instruction and guidance, and the power to obey on the most “common sense” of problems. And He never begrudges giving any of those to anyone who asks, and especially enjoys giving it to His children.
This is one of the reasons I continue
Following Jesus every day in the everyday,
Christi
