All These Things…Peace

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be yours as well. -Matthew 6:33
Still my verse for the year…still learning what it means…still finding out what it is that God is offering when He says “all these things.”
These last few weeks have been full of internal turmoil…an old relationship wound has raised its head and roared – loudly! The terror of it made scrambled brain of what is normally a well-functioning organ. I have been paralyzed, muted, and muddled by the suddenly self-turned focus it brings. I found myself scrambling for reassurance, uncontrollably ruminating about the possible sources of the problem, concocting schemes of self-justification and rationalization, or desperately seeking escape in phone games, frantic busywork, necessary chores.
I tried journaling, praying, reading scripture…all good things, but nothing suppressed it for long. I sought others to pray with me…they were too busy to meet for prayer. I began to sink into depression, crying at the smallest difficulty or stress, developing stomach pain as the pain in my heart and mind continued.
I had promised to make alterations in a formal, and for the most part, the details of the required adjustments kept my thoughts occupied. But now I came to the last bit…the one that would show. Everything else was inside, adjusting the fit but with no stitches showing. The fabric was the kind that frays and is slippery and fragile, like my heart.
Earlier in the morning, a friend texted me to ask how I was doing; she had been praying God’s supernatural peace over me. I responded fairly positively and with the truth as I understood it. Then my fragile calm crumbled as feelings of rejection and abandonment flooded over me. Waiting on God to supply “all these things” in this troubled relationship suddenly became too much! I reached out to her with part of my struggle, and God had her send me three pages of declarations of truth that addressed aspects that I had only thought but not verbalized.
I read them aloud…or rather attempted to read them. I could not read the tiny words on my cell phone without my glasses and was crying too hard to keep from flooding the glasses with tears! Somehow, I remembered I could make the words on my phone bigger…and was able to complete the declarations.
God’s supernatural peace flooded my heart, my thoughts were calm and ordered. I was able to think clearly and was no longer obsessing over something I could not fix, nor even address. I finished the dress.
The Father so definitely supplies “all these things” when Him and His kingdom are our primary pursuit. I thank Him for keeping His promises.
Following Jesus every day in the everyday,
Christi
P.S. Leave me a comment about how you have seen Him provide, or how you need Him to meet your need. I’d love to pray for you!
