A Prayer Overheard

Published by christi on

Good morning, Papa-God,

My heart is heavy, my body weary and pained, my mind restless. I need You, Your peace.

You know the source of my trouble. I know the circumstances (at least in part) but, You alone know the end from the beginning, and You know the true root of the anguish and disquiet.

I did pray, “Take my life…and use every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.” If this is how You are choosing to use this mind, heart, and body, I don’t like it, but it is Yours, not mine. Lead me in complete submission to You.

But Jesus, You said Your yoke of submission is easy and Your burden light. This feels neither easy nor light. Is it lighter than the load of keeping the Law without an enlivened heart? Yes.

Is it a suffering-free zone? No — but that’s not what You meant. You said there would be trouble, persecution and disgrace because we are Yours, and this is the path that You took for our sakes. You said we could learn humility and gentleness (absolute dependence on the Father and deliberate restraint of power).

I wonder…

All the scripture readings for today are full of disappointment:  delayed rescue, disobedience followed by destruction, failure to love. This is not encouraging. My heart is still heavy and I am weak.

Help.

Thank you for not being ashamed of my weakness, but for inviting me to come to You in it.

Still

Following Jesus every day in the everyday,

Christi

P.S. The next day these were the verses:

Do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you  wherever you go, (Joshua 1:9)  and

Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions and calamities for the sake of Christ: for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:10)
