Seeking His righteousness so we can be with Him

I have a leaf-hopper problem.
They are not usually a big enough issue for the “insects of the garden” book to give more than a nod to dealing with them. But they ruined last year’s grape crop. Instead of the hundred pounds I expected, I got about twenty-five, if that. The tiny, cell-juice sucking creatures carry disease. And they make the leaves ugly. It is very difficult to enjoy sitting in my quiet space or working in the vineyard when there are tiny projectiles being launched into my eyes and nose. Two years in a row makes it feel like a plague!
Remembering the squash bug disaster, I am asking: “God, what in me are You calling into the light? What part of my heart do You want me to surrender? Where are You looking to transform me?”
If He’s so interested in me being righteous, why does He wait for me to cooperate, to be open to the work? Why doesn’t He just snap His spirit-fingers and wha-bam!, we are holy, like it or not? As a friend has observed, it would certainly be easier and have guaranteed success.
The whole point of God commanding and working holiness in us is so that we can be with Him.The writer of the letter to the Hebrews declares that “without holiness no one will see God.” * God wants us with Him in the process now, just like He wanted to walk with us here on this big blue marble. That’s why Jesus came as the “With Us” God, Emmanuel!**
I do not yet know what God is after…I don’t know if I am ready to cooperate with the work He desires to do in me, but I know that He is always more gentle with me than I am, that His plans are good ones…and He loves me exactly where and how I am!
Where are you seeing God at work in your heart? I’d love to hear it…completed or not.
Following Jesus every day in the everyday!
Christi
