My “Everyday” Schedule

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be yours as well. –Matthew 6:33
This is one of those days when the everyday has so many wrinkles and curves, so many challenges and obstacles that I am VERY aware of my need to have Jesus be my guide and strength. (This is a good thing!)
I need to set up a work/writing schedule that I can keep, along with setting aside essential time for my most important relationships. There are so many things that seem to be necessary.
How did Jesus keep His schedule straight? Did He have a schedule? He didn’t have a day timer. He didn’t have a secretary… Did He have an operational plan?
He had to operate under two conflicting calendars: the Jewish lunar calendar with its six-day workweek and its God-sourced annual festivals, and the Roman calendar which contained no weekly day of rest and could change at the whim of the emperor. (This is why we have four months with number-related names at the “wrong” place in the calendar. September was originally the seventh month, October the eighth and so forth.)
Until He left home to begin His ministry, He operated according to the instruction of His mother and adoptive father, the rabbis and synagogue leaders of His small town. After that He remained under the rule of the Roman Empire and the provincial government, but over all, under all and through all, His primary paradigm was His absolute surrender to God the Father, evidenced through His turn-on-a dime-and-give-you nine-cents-change obedience to God’s instructions. Jesus did nothing but what He saw the Father doing, said nothing but what He heard the Father saying, went nowhere unless He had the go-ahead from Adonai.
How can I follow Jesus in this? What are the footsteps I can place my feet in?
First, like Jesus, I can reckon with the fact that Papa-God has always been above and beyond time: He is every-when. We have it in writing that all time and all timing is according to His plan and ruler-ship.
Secondly, I can walk in the courage of knowing that God’s Holy Spirit not only fills the whole earth —indeed the whole universe — but also the hearts of all who trust in Jesus, reassuring me that He is wherever I am, and He works beyond my boundaries, transcending every human limitation, and I AM IN HIM! He leads me according to the culture of heaven, so I am going to appear out-of-step with the world around me.
That’s a good thing; it’s like Jesus!
Finally, I can practice (aim, train, repeat) the discipline of absolute surrender and ear-to-the-Heavens obedience by the power of the indwelling Spirit of God. Just like Jesus!
Join me in following Jesus with your schedule. Let me know what adventures He takes you on!
Following Jesus every day in the everyday,
Christi
