Dustpans and God’s Supply

Published by christi on

So…I couldn’t find my dustpan.

It’s the kind that is designed to clip onto the handle of the broom, so you don’t lose it…

So much for that design.

I had been out of town for almost two weeks. Someone else had been minding my house, and I couldn’t remember where I had it last, to even begin looking for it. The floors had been messy and in need of sweeping before I left town, but now they were OUT OF CONTROL! Dog hair, dust bunnies, dead leaves, potting soil, wrappers, popcorn, scraps of fabric…yeah, all that stuff. It needs mopped, too, but first it needed to be swept, and after having been on the lookout for it for a week, I finally decided that it had to be done. It was what I had put on the calendar to do today, so I said, “Okay, God. I am going to sweep. You will provide a way to scoop it up afterwards.”

I can always use an envelope or a flattened cereal box….but it would be nice to have my dustpan.

The phone rang. My middle son, who likes to chat while he’s driving across country, called, and I plugged in the headphones so we could talk while I swept. I swept the library-back entry area, the dining room, the kitchen and the hallway, leaving piles of dirt and other debris, and was tackling the last room on my list, the living room, dragging the broom around the furniture.

We were talking about how God meets the needs we have just in time, never late but not usually beforehand. It occurred to me I needed to clean under the furniture, so I pushed back the love seat to sweep under it.

Lo, and behold! The missing dustpan! Just in time.

God supplies our needs…of all kinds, when we pursue Him and His kingdom. It’s what He does!

Let me know where you see Him supplying your needs!

Following Jesus every day in the everyday!
