Waiting

Published by christi on

The last few days have included lots of waiting:  waiting for canceled flights to be rescheduled, waiting for a place to sit in the crowded concourse where hundreds of others also waited for skies to clear, planes to be emptied and readied for the next wave of passengers, waiting for my turn in line to buy overpriced snacks and drinks, waiting in security screening lines and baggage claim queues…

Then waiting for our turn at the hospital, waiting during the procedure, waiting to be discharged, waiting for pain meds to take effect, waiting for sleep to come and heal…

For some of us, waiting is the hardest thing we must do.

Jesus was, and is, very good at it.

I think it must be because He never looked to the circumstances for what He was to do. He was always looking to the Father for what to do, where to go, what to say and to whom. He Himself said, “I do nothing without the Father. I say only what I hear the Father say.” He never worried that He was in the wrong place at the wrong time even when things were ugly. He never said, “How did I get myself into this mess?” He knew that wherever He was, the Father had placed Him there.

“Yeah, well, Jesus was perfect, never made a mistake, always did exactly what He was told, so of course the Father had placed Him where He was!” I might hear you saying. “If I’m in a mess, I probably got myself there, screwed something up or made somebody mad.”

Nope, nope, nope and nope!

Scripture is very clear that the paths of those who belong to Him are guarded, guided, chosen, orchestrated even, to produce several things:

Glory for God (God’s Glory is defined as the observable essence of His nature, often revealed through His goodness. See Exodus 32??), so the ways He takes us, even when they are incomprehensible, are chosen by Him to reveal Himself to us and those around us – visible and invisible.

Good for us. All the things which are of benefit to us are being done through all the things in our lives. (Romans 8:28-29)

Think about that for a minute.

No plan of God ever fails. No plan B. No second guessing. He never says, “Let’s try this.”

So, if you find yourself frustrated in the place of waiting, you might try asking:

Papa-God, what are You after in me?

Or Great I AM, show me Your goodness in this?

In either case, asking for the faith to trust Him and His work on your behalf is a really good place to start.

Praying for Him to reveal His goodness and give more faith in every circumstance, both to you and to me as we wait…

Following Jesus every day in the everyday,

Christi
