Restoring the Image of God…in Us

“Let it be to me according to your word…”
— Luke 1:38
Christmas is only a few weeks away! That means this is Advent!
If you are in a liturgical church, the folks and the furniture up front are draped in purple. If not, you may not even be aware that this time of year holds special significance: Advent. It is from Latin and means He comes.
He comes to restore in us the image of God that was intended all along.
He comes to work in us that character we see in Jesus through every bit of His earthly life, beginning with His incarnation in the womb of the virgin Mary.
He comes to display the perfect image of the holy, Invisible God in a form we could draw near to without abject terror and despair!
He comes to make a people, a family…for Himself.
This Advent season, with help from Rev. Dr. Timothy Smith, (www.waterfromrock.org) I have been meditating on the “Christ Hymn” found in Colossians 1. One of the powerful truths I have been meditating on has been that of Jesus as the Restorer of God’s image.
Restorer of Image, restore me.
Let me become what You see — glorious destiny! —
become like You . . .
like Jesus through and through
measured — not by what we’ve done
but by who we’ve become in You —
through Sacrifice restored
looking like Christ our LORD — to You
This is in present tense.
Your blood is our defense!
What You see, we will be!
Praying that this advent season will find you being more of what God sees!
Christi
