Delays

My calendar feels like it rides the bellows of an accordion: sometimes all the events are squished close together as all the air is squeezed out of my lungs; other times there is lots of space between appointments, leaving plenty of breathing room.
The last few have been weeks with room to inhale. The next few days will be wonderfully scrunched full of family visits and other activities.
This week following Jesus every day in the everyday includes:
A big family baby shower — grandchild number nine is on the way; almost all the aunties and uncles will be there;
A small high school graduate event — six seniors are moving on;
A visit to the vet with our dog — she is showing her age;
Digging up ‘taters — God provides food from the earth;
Text conversations and reminders from the Word — God still rules in the heavenlies.
My reading today was in Daniel 10, where an spectacular man-like personage brought a message to the prophet who had been fasting and waiting on God for three weeks. In what seems to be a side-comment, this messenger lets Daniel know that the delay in bringing him the word he had been seeking was due to angelic warfare. This was so comforting to hear, because sometimes when I have prayed what seems like a long time (years, perhaps) for something that I am certain God wants, it can feel like I am not being heard, or am being ignored. It was nice to read that God sent an answer right away, but the messenger had to fight his way through. I mentioned this to the Hub, and he responded that God is always in charge of the timing, even when it seems unfair or delayed.
Less than a minute later I received this text from a dear friend:
“Please know that God is working. It may take more time than we would like, but He is working. I’m reading books…and hearing words of wisdom [given] me a long time ago in a new light and seeing that the Father is at work in even our most desperate, sad moments.”
How’s that for God’s everyday, amazing timing, even in the “delays”?
Praying that you are able to see Him at work in your everydays, too.
Following Jesus every day in the everyday,
Christi
