Advent

Published by christi on

 Christmas is coming.

I know when that’s happening, and I am not ready! I know what is expected; I know what I want to have done; and I know how few days I have left. Yet here I am, unprepared.

Advent! The Bridegroom comes!

Jesus said even He did not know the day or the hour of His return. How am I supposed to be ready if I don’t even know when He is coming?!

I have this massive internal “to-do” list. What does He expect me to have done?

I have big questions about what I need to have in order to be ready. What does He expect me to have?

I have giant fears of being a disappointment to Him. What does He expect of me?

Behold the conflict between the information I have and the “truth” that has me!

Jesus is coming for a Bride chosen for Him before time began…talk about your arranged marriage! This is the Father’s doing, with the Bridegroom’s consent and the Holy Spirit’s seal imprinted on those who belong to Him. I did not choose myself before the dawn of creation…He chose me!

Jesus is coming for a Bride who is seeking to be a fitting match for the Bridegroom. The Father has arranged for me to be transformed into His image by His power.  No crash diets, tanning beds or salon makeovers are needed here. His work is done in me through my trust in and willing cooperation (both of which Holy Spirit provides!) with Him…just like Jesus did when He walked on the planet! It is His job to make me spotless and wrinkle-free!

Jesus is coming for a Bride who responds to His overwhelming, unreasonable, unquenchable love! Love that the fires of Hell could not extinguish! Love that required Him to strip off everything He is entitled to and become one of us. We respond to Him with love because He loved us first! (1 John 4:19)

He wants me…His…willing.

I think I can do this…but not alone.
