Let the Frugal Adventures Begin!
I have spent over six
From the time I was a small child, I observed my mother…
- Inventing new things from what was on hand (Wrinkled, bruised apples became spicy, fragrant apple butter.),
- Creating new things from unexpected, inexpensive materials (Christmas bell costumes were sewn on the sewing machine from crepe paper and stiffened with wire coat hangers.),
- Adapting old or existing things to new uses (Fabric scraps became a lap robe for her dad. See photo above).
None of these things saved huge amounts of money, but each one resulted in the delightful combination of saving a little money, exercising her creativity and providing something beautiful or useful (often both) for the people she cared about. It is to her memory that this blog post is dedicated.
I see Jesus doing that same thing in me. He takes the pieces of my experience, sews them together with the thread of His loving sovereignty and makes the mess-I-think-I-am into a beautiful quilt, thus displaying His love and creativity! It’s not because Jesus is poor –although His life here on earth was lived as a homeless person, dependent on the Heavenly Father’s provision for His needs through the generosity of others– but because He is the Redeemer. He buys back from the slave market of sin, at the cost of His own life, those He has created for His glory, then fashions them together into a beautiful, well-dressed Bride, using a combination of their weaknesses and His power. Nothing wasted. Everything redeemed!
As His follower, I can take the same approach to managing my household. Reuse, repurpose, recycle. Yup! God did it first!
