Seeking His Kingdom (Part 3)

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be yours as well.
-Matthew 6:33
I didn’t want to go. I was warm and comfy in my quiet time corner, Bible and journal in my lap. It is cold outside, (at least for here in the Arizona desert), and I didn’t want to go… I needed to write this post, needed to spend some time in the word, needed to learn a couple new worship songs for this week’s service…but when I asked of God where He wanted to meet me in His word, I got nothing, Just the understanding that I was to go…
I swim laps for exercise, and this morning running after God’s kingdom looked like scraping the frost off the windshield and driving to a pool swathed in fog.
Last night it looked like hanging out with teenagers: having a dozen conversations; coaching a rehearsal; confessing my grief and sadness before them and receiving prayer for it; sensing God’s direction to speak words of encouragement to several of them. There were several confirmations that what I said to them was from Him.
Yesterday afternoon pursuing the King’s desires as I was bringing in the groceries meant asking for guidance about what I could prep for supper that would meet the varied nutritional needs of my household and be able to be completed by one of them in my absence. (The report this morning was reassuring.)
Sometimes seeking the kingdom is “flying blind” (without logical or circumstantial support); other times it matches with what common sense would indicate. Jesus demonstrated both of those. He pursued the Father’s kingdom when He sent the disciples ahead in the boat to give Him some alone time with the Father… and then ended up walking on water to catch up with them. Common sense said that hungry people needed to be fed, but the Father instructed Him to use an uncommon solution, feeding 15,000 or more with one person’s brown-bag lunch…twice.
Many times I do not see the fruit of my obedience, but I am finding that I hear Him much more clearly when I begin to listen with a heart- and mind-set of obeying what I hear.
